About Our Company:

The Company was founded in Hitchin in 1935 by George R J Chenery, a stone mason by trade, with its offices in Bancroft. It moved to its present office in 1973, Ray Chenery had been in the business with his father for over 20 years when he took over the running of the Company in 1975.

Over the past years we have been privileged to arrange funerals for Sir David Bowes-Lyon, the brother of the late Queen Mother and Sir Henry Joseph Wood, famous Conductor of the London Promenade Concert Orchestra.

Since the Death of Ray Chenery in 2005, the company is now run under the auspices of Mrs Chenery and we are committed to continuing the tradition, started by George all those years ago, to deliver a service with a family feel.

Our experienced staff of Margaret, Pat and Paul will guide and assist you through all the steps required for arranging a funeral to celebrate and remember the life of a loved one.

The Company has continued with its traditional approach to funerals whilst adapting to the changing times and needs of the people of the community. Funerals can be arranged for all denominations and distance is no object.

Visits to the Rest Chapel can be arranged to suit the individual family.

We deal with funerals from all over the country and from many parts of the world, both to and from the United Kingdom.

Our Personal Service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
